| Özet |
| The purpose of this research is to examine the marital life of the families having children with special needs in the context of the gender based approach, and to determine social policy priorities on the issue. In this sense this is both a theoretical and practical study. Having used the survey model this research was conducted in Ankara. Cluster sampling techniques was chosen. Sampling was comprised of 120 families having children with special needs (120 male and 120 female) who receive service from Private İlk Esen Special Education and Rehabilitation Center in Ankara. Data were collected face to face using “Marital Life Scale”. Data of the research were analyzed via descriptive and statistical analysis techniques. The main findings show that socio-demographic characteristics, gender roles, division of labor, and care load of the participants having children with special needs influence their marital life on the basis of gender. This study ended up with the recognition of gender inequality in the marital life of the families having children with special needs, and with the need of alternative social policy implementations. Thus, it is important to develop social policies toward these families on the basis of gender equality. |
