| Drought is a natural disaster that may affect our lives in different ways. In this study, a meteorological drought analysis in the Kizilirmak river basin of Turkey was presented. The basin is located in a region with semi-arid climate characteristics. The monthly precipitation data for the 1960--2017 period from 22 meteorological stations within the basin were utilized for the drought analysis. In the scope of this research, firstly the most appropriate probability distributions for the monthly precipitation data were investigated using the goodness-of-fit tests. The Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) was employed to examine drought characteristics in the basin. The spatial maps of droughts were constructed to identify the spatial variations of droughts for the selected years.
