| Özet |
| In the standard model (SM), the dominant processes for inclusive W-boson production in pp collisions are annihilation processes: ud→ W þ and du→ W− involving a valence quark from one proton and a sea antiquark from the other. Since there are two valence u quarks and one valence d quark in the proton, W þ bosons are produced more often than W− bosons. The Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has investigated this production asymmetry in inclusive W-boson production and measured the inclusive ratio of total cross sections for W þ and W− boson production at ffiffiffi s p ¼ 7 TeV to be 1.421 Æ 0.006 ðstatÞ Æ 0.032 ðsystÞ [1].This result is in agreement with SM predictions based on various parton distribution functions (PDFs) such as the MSTW2008 and CT10 PDF sets [2, 3]. Measurements of the production asymmetry between W þ and W− bosons as a function of boson rapidity can provide additional constraints on the d= u ratio and on the sea antiquark densities in the proton.
