| Özet |
| Medical devices such as dental and orthopedic implants always require utilization of metallic materials possessing high strength (static/dynamic) and corrosion resistance as well as good biological compatibility. Early biomedical applications of titanium relied on its two principal properties: High strength that can be tailored by alloying and/or heat treatment, and good corrosion resistance. Also, the low density (providing high strength to weight ratio) and low elastic modulus (leading to a reduction in stress shielding effect) of titanium alloys appeared to be additional advantages over other competing metallic materials, including stainless steels and cobaltchromium alloys (Boyer et al., 1994; Donachie, 1989). The practical use of titanium implants started in the 1960s with the first studies published in 1969, and later on their usage in dentistry and orthopedics rapidly increased to the level we find in the present day … |
