| Himâye-i Etfâl Society is not only an institution that protects the children who serve in the Ottoman Empire and are the most valuable representatives of the survival of the state, but also strives to raise those who are the future of the country as mentally and physically healthy, educated and moral generations. It has become an institution. However, over time, the political, military and economic negativities experienced by the Ottoman Empire and the subsequent Republic of Turkey caused the material and moral need for this institution to deepen. For this reason, it was decided to open branches in different regions of the country and carry out its activities in order to firstly care for the children of martyrs, then the children of war-damaged disabled people and disaster victims, as well as the children that deserved and needy community members are obliged to take care of but have difficulty in caring for for various reasons. Today, Turkish Republic the institution, which worked as the General Directorate of Children's Services under the umbrella of the Ministry of Family and Social Services, continued to serve as the Turkish Himaye-i Etfal Society in Ankara on 30 June 1921. Within the scope of its aims, the society opened soup kitchens, mother's shelters, nursing homes and free bathrooms, and in order to prevent the infant deaths that were frequently seen in the country at the time, it also prevented these deaths and epidemics by providing parent health services and education through the practices of visiting nurses and health guides.
