Özet
Growth, biomass and production of 1-year-old mussels were monitored in mussel raft systems over a 15 month period in Loch Etive and Loch Kishorn on the west coast of Scotland. Water temperature, salinity, seston, particulate organic matter and chlorophyll a were also measured. The salinity, amount of seston and transparency were significantly higher in Loch Kishorn than Loch Etive (P<0.05). Growth of mussels was relatively rapid from May to November and very slow during the rest of the year. Length increments were similar in both sites (31.01 mm in Loch Etive and 28.75 mm in Loch Kishorn). Mussels reached market size (> 50 mm) about 2 years after spat settlement. The mean specific growth rate was 5.5% in Loch Etive and 4.5% in Loch Kishorn. Live weight was significantly higher in Loch Etive; tissue weight was higher in Loch Kishorn (P<0.05); this was attributed to heavier shell weight in Loch Etive …
