| Özet |
| Gediz Delta is a wetland which has Key Biodiversity Area’s criteria. Most of the delta has Natural Site status by Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the smaller part has Wildlife Protection status by Ministry of Environment and Forestry. In addition, the delta is partly participated to Ramsar Convention and has a lot of bird species which are protected by Bern Convention. Gediz Delta has both natural values as biodiversity, hidrologic values, biocycle, food chain, etc, and economic values as salt production, fishery, ecotourism, etc. The third, but less known function of Gediz Delta is recreational and social possibilities for people of Izmir Metropolitan City who need them. Despite those functions and national and international protection statuses, Gediz Delta is a good example of how a natural area must not be used. Gediz Delta is not only important for Turkey, but it’s also a global example for nature conservation and conflicts of different sectors. The aim of this article is making a discussion about conservation and land use implementations on delta as a brief. |
