| Özet |
| Female genital cosmetic surgery (FGCS); refers to cosmetic surgery procedures that alter the structure and appearance of a healthy female genital organ that is not actually medically indicated. Under FGCS title, there are a number of procedures including labioplasty, vaginal rejuvenation, hip filling, G-spot bulking, hymenoplasty, clitoral hood reduction, and mons pubis reduction. Women apply to genital cosmetic surgery (GCS) procedures for aesthetic, functional, sexual, and cultural reasons. In recent years, a large number of healthy women or young girls have been investigating GCS procedures and there has been a great increase in the aesthetic operations of this region with the reason for the growing awareness of the external genitalia appearance. Lack of evidence about risks, effectiveness, complications, and patient satisfaction about FGCS continues although being a subject to considerable debate and opinion. Scientific gynecological associations has emphasized that all women considering GCS should be informed about sexual and psychological counseling about the normal appearance and physiological changes of the genital area and the possible risks of GCS. The aim of this review is to discuss the types of GCS, the risks, the reasons for preferring women, the relationship between sexuality and body image, and the role of health professionals in counseling about GCS. |
